Blast From the Past!

I remember getting this comic for the princely sum of 25 cents back then (and it was a lot back in the 1960s -- coke bottles were only selling for 2 cents each, so I had to find half a flat of them to buy the comic), but thankfully there was no tax on a quarter (yeah, that's what's really unbelievable at this point).

I loved Goliath's new costume back then, and I figured Black Panther was toast going up against the Hulk.  And Hawkeye squaring off against Iron Man?  Please!

FEVRE DREAM Out Now!

One of my OU students has another novella up on Amazon!

New York police detective Sam Cordray is returning to the force after a year-long battle with Fevre Dream, a drug that both heightens the senses and causes frightening hallucinations. Police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt gives Sam a case to get him back in business: the murder of Molly O'Hara, an actress at City Lights Theatre.

Sam doesn't think the case is anything out of the ordinary – until Fevre Dream surfaces in connection with the murder. Now he's caught in a battle: escaping the dark days he thought he had left behind him, or finding the City Lights murderer before he or she strikes again.

SONGBIRD -- An Award Finalist!

Bill Crider (writing as Colby Jackson) has landed on the Western Fictioneers Peacemaker Award Finalist list.  This is a great, fun book, and for those of you who know Joe Lansdale, the beautiful young woman on the cover is Joe's daughter, singer/songwriter Kasey Lansdale.

Congrats, Bill!

The Gordian Knot -- $123 Away from Reality

I just backed a guy's film project at Kickstarter because that's what we do if we want to make sure ART is born into the world.  I don't know Latham Conger except through mention in J. A. Konrath's blog.

But I do know his desire to do something, to make something that will stand up and be enjoyed by viewers who borrow his dream to get into a world not their own for a little while.  Because that's what art does for us: opens doors into other places that we wouldn't get to on our own.

So I anted up $20 for a DVD of the finished product.  Conger has less than two days to make his dream a reality, to create a vehicle for other people to enjoy and escape to another place for a little while.  You can donate as little as a dollar.  If 123 of you do that, this artist has his dream come true.

A dollar's not much most of the time, but there are times when they're as magic as Jack's beans (you know, the ones he traded the family cow for).

If you'd like to help out, go here.

Caught My Eye

Rain of the Ghosts is the first in Greg Weisman's series about an adventurous young girl, Rain Cacique, who discovers she has a mystery to solve, a mission to complete and, oh, yes, the ability to see ghosts.

Welcome to the Prospero Keys (or as the locals call them: the Ghost Keys), a beautiful chain of tropical islands on the edge of the Bermuda Triangle. Rain Cacique is water-skiing with her two best friends Charlie and Miranda when Rain sees her father waiting for her at the dock. Sebastian Bohique, her maternal grandfather, has passed away. He was the only person who ever made Rain feel special. The only one who believed she could do something important with her life. The only thing she has left to remember him by is the armband he used to wear: two gold snakes intertwined, clasping each other’s tails in their mouths. Only the armband . . . and the gift it brings: Rain can see dead people. Starting with the Dark Man: a ghost determined to reveal the Ghost Keys’ hidden world of mystery and mysticism, intrigue and adventure.

Renegade by L. A. Wilcox Out Now

This is from one of my students!  Please help get the word out.  I think she did a great job with her story and execution of the finished book.  Paperback will be out soon.

There are just three rules to being a time traveler.

1. Do not, under any circumstance, interfere with your environment during travel.
2. Do not attempt to carry other persons or large articles during travel.
3. Keep your talisman on your person at all times.

When time traveler Andrew Simmons loses his talisman in pre-revolutionary Boston, he must race against the clock to retrieve his only way home. Everything is on the line – family, love, freedom, honor, and quite possibly the future. But as time reveals a long line of dark secrets, Andrew realizes he must save more than just his skin. He must also save his kind.
